
Chantelle Tom-Ying
Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone
Chantelle Tom-Ying is a classical saxophonist and teacher from Richmond Hill. She is currently studying classical saxophone performance and life sciences at the University of Toronto, pursuing degrees in music and science. She began her musical training on piano at the age of six before switching to saxophone in university, where she now studies under Wallace Halladay. Praised for her expressive quality, Chantelle has won first place in the International Music Festival Competition woodwinds category, first place in the Ontario Musical Festivals Association classical reed provincials, and was winner of the 2025 Rouge River Winds solo competition. She has performed with notable ensembles including the Toronto Pops Orchestra and the Toronto Saxophone Collective at venues such as the ROM. As an educator, her pedagogical approach has led students to consistently attain competitive positions, including principal positions in the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra and the Ontario Provincial Honour Band. In 2024, she attended the esteemed Université Européenne de Saxophone in France on a grant from the University of Toronto, where she had the opportunity to perform and work with Claude Delangle of the Conservatoire de Paris, among many notable others. In April 2026, Chantelle will appear as a soloist with the Rouge River Winds, performing the Sonate en Ut# by the female French composer, Fernande Decruck.
