Amaya Sydor

Biography

Amaya Sydor is a Toronto-based bass trombonist pursuing her Artist Diploma at the Glenn Gould School of Music, studying under Gordon Wolfe. She completed one year of her Master’s of Music at the University of Toronto studying under Vanessa Fralick and Megan Hodge before being accepted into the Glenn Gould School for the 2026 school year. She is a budding active freelancer in the city and has performed with local groups and orchestras in the Greater Toronto Area. Amaya received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria in 2025, and is an active member of Vancouver Island’s music community. She has performed several times with the Victoria Symphony, the Vancouver Island Symphony, the Victoria Choral Society Orchestra, and was the brass representative of the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra for several years. She has also attended prestigious summer academies and festivals, including Academie du Domaine Forget de Charlevoix in Quebec, and PRISMA Academy in Powell River, BC. Outside of music, Amaya enjoys hiking and birdwatching.
