Richard Hu

Biography

Richard Hu is an electronic music artist, DJ, pianist, and composer. Born and raised in Scarborough, ON, he started his musical journey on the piano at the age of 7, later discovering his love for electronic music through the Canadian electronic music label Monstercat during the mid-2010s. He would later start producing and composing music at the age of 16 under the alias of Forged Reigns. Later, he completed his Bachelor of Music at Queen's University, having studied piano and chamber music under Dina Namer, and electronic/acoustic composition under Dr. Matt Rogalsky, Dr. Christopher Mayo, and Dr. John Burge. As Forged Reigns, he is an active participant in the Chinese doujin music scene with two studio albums and several appearances across various compilation albums from labels such as Silent Xords, Kreuzwave, 卉HUI-Works, and Rolling Bassline. He is also active in the Toronto nightlife scene as a DJ specializing in the trance and hard dance genres. As a composer, Richard draws upon his diverse musical experience to create and share music that resonates with others; he hopes that by demonstrating cross-disciplinary applications between the seemingly diametric classical and electronic worlds, proponents of one will be able to better appreciate the other.
